I am slowly working my way through all the Miyazaki films and I’m loving every minute of it! Each film hits me right in the feels in sometimes surprising ways. Themes like the importance of loyalty in friendship, the love of family and a devotion to the Earth illustrate a deep sense of humanity set in incredible worlds filled with fantastic creatures. The Studio Ghibli films teach us that we are all more alike than we are different.
No film has affected me quite like “My Neighbor Totoro.” Totoro has inspired a few paintings this summer and is the theme for a pretty epic project that will debut in August (more on that piece in an upcoming blog post). One such painting accompanies this blog post. Titled “Friends in the Forest,” this acrylic on canvas painting measures 10″x10″ and is available for $45 (+ shipping).
