How to Help Floridians After Hurricane Irma

I have tried in earnest to keep this blog focused on the artistic and creative projects I am pursuing as an artist and art historian, but I must make a plea on behalf of my state of Florida.  Yes, things could have been much, much worse – more damage, injuries or more casualties.  However, things are spiraling in a negative direction now because of the hurricane’s effects.

I have been checking in with friends and family from around the state and things are NOT good.  Besides dealing with clean up efforts, hundreds of thousands of people are without power.  Just a reminder – it is currently 90 degrees in Central Florida with a “feels like” temperature of 98 degrees.  People are being evacuated AFTER the hurricane due to severe flooding in some areas.  Plus, there are multiple “boil water” alerts for some neighborhoods due to sewage seeping into the rivers, lakes and water systems. There are those with no where to go who feel trapped and powerless. This hurricane hit the ENTIRE state of Florida and we need YOUR help.

This is not being reported in most media outlets outside of the state, but as someone who lives here, I can tell you that there are people in serious need.  If you can help, even just a few dollars, please consider donating to the following charities…

I learned that if necessity is the mother of invention, then authenticity is the mother of reinvention. I reinvented myself and learned an entirely new medium. The resulting artwork surprised me, and it will surprise you, too. Some people wish for a fairytale ending. For me, the fairy tale is only the beginning.
