THANK YOU to all those who attended my recent lecture celebrating the life and work of Vincent van Gogh. From Winter Garden to Mount Dora, 127 people bonded over their shared admiration for “the artist’s artist” and who I think is the most human human being to walk this planet. He painted himself into each work of art, reaching out to us through the years to make that connection he so longed for in his life.
This quote from one of his letters always moves me to tears…
“What am I in the eyes of most people? A nonentity or an oddity or a disagreeable person — someone who has and will have no position in society, in short a little lower than the lowest. Very well — assuming that everything is indeed like that, then through my work I’d like to show what there is in the heart of such an oddity, such a nobody.”
