“Night Magic” is currently on display at City Arts Factory in Downtown Orlando, FL as part of their “Dia de los Muertos & Monster Factory” shows. I am very pleased with the final result because it started as a completely different painting!
When I have an idea for a painting, I typically do a sketch or two to see if I can translate that idea from my brain to paper. I then do my best to translate that sketch into a painting. With this particular painting, I didn’t do any sketches and I just started painting. That is a little scary for me – painting without a sketch – but it is good to do every once in a while to build up confidence and the ability to improvise.
And I definitely had to improvise! After a few stops and starts and that all-too-often thought – “Just paint over it and start over!” – I persevered and finally got this piece to a place I liked. And, of course, that place includes Totoros.
“Night Magic” is acrylic on canvas, measures 16″ x 20″ and is on view at City Arts Factory through November 10th.
