I am currently working on a brand new, three-part lecture series that explores Marcel Duchamp, Dada and Modern Art.  I have always loved Modern Art, but there were two key events that inspired me to produce a lecture series that delves a bit deeper into the motives and theories held by Modern artists.

The first thing that struck a chord with me was the announcement of the Dali/Duchamp exhibition at The Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, FL.  The exhibition opens February 10th and runs through May 27th.  It will explore the creative and personal lives of both Salvador Dali and Marcel Duchamp, two great masters of the Modern Art movement.

I also took into consideration comments from guests at my most recent lectures.  All the comments centered around one basic question… “Modern Art… why should I like it?”  I think this is a very honest and important question.  I believe that, generally speaking, the public at large understands that it was a powerful time in art history, but the artwork that resulted is difficult to appreciate when one does not understand the theories and motives behind it.

My upcoming lecture series – “Modern Art Madness!” – will provide a bit of clarity when it comes to all the assorted “-isms” of Modern Art and explain some of the theoretical and esoteric goals those artists hoped to accomplish.

I learned that if necessity is the mother of invention, then authenticity is the mother of reinvention. I reinvented myself and learned an entirely new medium. The resulting artwork surprised me, and it will surprise you, too. Some people wish for a fairytale ending. For me, the fairy tale is only the beginning.
