Your, Loving Vincent

A bit of sadness…

On Saturday I presented my last lecture on Vincent van Gogh for a while.  I am grateful to everyone who attended this lecture over the last seven months, whether in Winter Garden or Mount Dora, Florida.  “Loving Vincent” did not win the Oscar Sunday night, but that was to be expected.  I am sad to say good-bye to Vincent (for now), but I treasure this amazing journey we’ve been on together.

Studying Vincent van Gogh as a person has given me a new appreciation for him as a Post-Impressionist painter and master artist.  His work has had a lasting effect on Western culture and pop culture and is still the primary inspiration for struggling and starving artists everywhere.  More than that, Vincent was a man out of his own time, born a century too early.  The fact that he never fit in – in society, his family or in the art world – makes him an artist and a man for all time.
