Nick Cave #3

I saw my third Nick Cave Soundsuit in October of 2015 while visiting Washington, D.C.  This city is pure heaven if you love museums as much as I do… and they are all free!  At the end of a long day, I found myself wandering towards Chinatown and even though I was tired and starving, I stopped in to check out the Smithsonian American Art Museum before they closed.  I didn’t have much time, but couldn’t pass up the opportunity.  I was greatly rewarded when I came upon a Nick Cave Soundsuit from 2009.  My day was made.

This week’s blog posts are all dedicated to one of my favorite living artists – Nick Cave – because he will have a show opening at the Orlando Museum of Art in less than three weeks.  There are no words to express the excitement I feel every time I think about his work being here in Central Florida.  This is HUGE for our community and I plan to make the most of it, so stay tuned for more blog posts on this incredible exhibition.

I have spent the last seven years building up The Wandering Art Historian “brand” as a way to connect with people who want to learn more about art. I decided to make myself vulnerable and find out what a real, genuine Adrienne H. Lee artwork would look like. The process was challenging and emotional and revelatory. I learned that if necessity is the mother of invention, then authenticity is the mother of reinvention. I reinvented myself and learned an entirely new medium. The resulting artwork surprised me, and it will surprise you, too. Some people wish for a fairytale ending. For me, the fairy tale is only the beginning.
