I recently visited the new exhibition, “Dangerous Women,” at the Cornell Fine Arts Museum. I highly recommend this show to anyone who has a penchant for the Baroque period or who wants to explore art theory regarding the role of women in art. The show consists of 23 paintings culled from the collection of the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art that inspire discussion on the depictions of women in art, primarily in Renaissance and Baroque paintings. The curation of the show is excellent and the artwork is organized into themed sections titled Temptresses, Heroines, Virtue and Vice. This small show with huge canvases and even bigger themes will stick with you long after you’ve left the museum.
