“Time Transfixed”

When I am thinking about researching and producing new lectures and classes, I try to be organic, for lack of a better word.  I think about the things I like to study.  I ask people who attend my events what interests them.  I pay attention to what is happening in the art world and what new books are being released.

I am also open to “signs.”

Over the summer, one of my students in my “Modern Art Madness!” class at the RCLL asked if I would be discussing Rene Magritte when covering Surrealism.  Sadly, Magritte is not part of that curriculum.  In May, I saw a ton of Magritte at The Art Institute of Chicago.  Their collection is epic and diverse and the painting, “Time Transfixed,” actually stopped me in my tracks.  Yes, upon seeing that painting I was much like the train coming through the fireplace.  I was stunned and emotional and it surprised me.

Not long ago, The Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, FL announced its next exhibition.  I kid you not, “Magritte & Dali” opens December 15th.

I saw the signs.  Look for a new lecture from me in March of 2019 all about Rene Magritte.

I decided to make myself vulnerable and find out what a real, genuine Adrienne H. Lee artwork would look like. The process was challenging and emotional and revelatory. I learned that if necessity is the mother of invention, then authenticity is the mother of reinvention. I reinvented myself and learned an entirely new medium. The resulting artwork surprised me, and it will surprise you, too. Some people wish for a fairytale ending. For me, the fairy tale is only the beginning.
