For the Love of Frida

I may be the only person in the world that still uses paper calendars, but who cares?!  Because I plan events so far in advance and don’t want to forget anything (and have a twinge of OCD), I need multiple places to document all my activities and shenanigans.  I actually work in triplicate – paper calendar, paper planner, digital calendar.  Maybe it’s because I am an artist, too, but, I like the tactile feel of writing in my events, crossing the days off and literally turning over a new month.

I found this incredible calendar that features twelve different artists paying tribute to the great Frida Kahlo for less than $8 on Amazon.  Each artist pays homage to the maestra in their own style and it is a true testament to Frida’s continual influence and inspiration, not just regarding her artwork, but also how she lived her life – open, painfully honest and wildly free.  I think, in 2019, we need Frida now more than ever.

The resulting artwork surprised me, and it will surprise you, too. Some people wish for a fairytale ending. For me, the fairy tale is only the beginning.
