Art Lovers Book Club 2019

This past Saturday I kicked off the 2nd annual Art Lovers Book Club at SoBo Gallery hosted by the Winter Garden Art Association.  We had an amazing time discussing June’s book, Lydia Cassatt Reading the Morning Paper by Harriett Scott Chessman.  You may remember that I posted about this book on the blog back in January.  For a slim tome, it really packs an emotional wallop.  I recommend reading it more than once which is easy to do since it is such a quick read.  It really becomes more profound with every reading.

I would also recommend doing a little bit of research on Bright’s disease.  The book is written from the perspective of Lydia Cassatt (Mary’s older sister) who suffered from this terrible malady.  The themes surrounding her affliction and her relationships and even her own self-perception are very thoughtful and moving.

July’s discussion will be on the book The Secret Supper by Javier Sierra.  For more information, please visit…

August’s discussion will be on the A Piece of the World by Christina Baker Kline.  For more information, please visit…
