Bob Ross

I finally went to pay my respects to the man himself… Bob Ross.

Bob Ross is buried here in Central Florida and this feels very auspicious to me.  A number of local artists have posted to social media that they have visited his grave site, so in a way, it has become a sort of pilgrimage destination for the creatives in our community.  And that is what it felt like for me.

Flowers didn’t seem appropriate, so I took a paintbrush.  It was so moving to see what others had left for him – coins, toys, squirrel figurines, crystals, flags, “Little Trees” air fresheners (I see what they did there!) and lots of paint brushes.  I also noticed that the grass in front of his plaque is worn away by the foot traffic of so many visitors.  His legacy of making art accessible to all truly lives on and the impact he has had on our culture is still felt today.  I think this proves his most famous quote to be true…

“There are no mistakes, only happy accidents.”
