I just finished The Lost Painting by Jonathan Harr and if you are at all interested in art historical research, the art restoration process or the artist Caravaggio, then you should probably read this book. Harr novelizes the sometimes frustrating and agonizing journey dozens of academics and scholars took to determine if the painting The Taking of Christ was an actual Caravaggio or a copy by another artist.
Fair warning – the book can be a bit dry at times and it helps to have a working knowledge of the Italian language and the geography of the country. The most fascinating part of this story is how the painting ends up in Dublin, Ireland where it remains to this day.
