Creative Online Resources

Today’s post is all about creative learning resources that can be found online.  If you are bored with Netflix and Hulu and want to do something a bit more interactive, these resources may help.

The Tate family of galleries in the U.K. posts a new video each week to their YouTube channel.  The topics are extremely varied and the videos are very well produced.  Topics range from art historical discussions of Keith Haring and Vincent van Gogh to interviews with contemporary artists and much more.  Plus, all videos are FREE!

If you are looking for more intensive educational opportunities, consider taking a FREE online class through Class Central.  Class Central features an assortment of courses hosted by Ivy League colleges in both Humanities and Art & Design among other topics.

Have you ever wanted to learn how to paint?  Now might be the perfect time to learn from a real artist!  Mike Goodge is an artist here in Central Florida offering online Skype sessions for just $20.

Children’s book author and illustrator of the well-known Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! series, Mo Willems, is hosting online drawing sessions called Lunch Doodles in conjunction with The Kennedy Center.  The videos are FREE and are perfect for children.

I have spent the last seven years building up The Wandering Art Historian “brand” as a way to connect with people who want to learn more about art. I give lectures and presentations and teach classes and host book club discussions with a creative or artistic connection. I also write about local artists, events, museums, and exhibitions to promote the arts in Central Florida. In 2021, I had a creative crisis. I struggled with authenticity in the art making process. I decided to make myself vulnerable and find out what a real, genuine Adrienne H. Lee artwork would look like. The process was challenging and emotional and revelatory. I learned that if necessity is the mother of invention, then authenticity is the mother of reinvention. I reinvented myself and learned an entirely new medium. The resulting artwork surprised me, and it will surprise you, too. Some people wish for a fairytale ending. For me, the fairy tale is only the beginning.
