My #CovidClassics post for this week features my beagle, Chip, in the role she was born to play.
Frida Kahlo had a whole menagerie of animals to keep her company at her home, Casa Azul (The Blue House). However, Mr. Xolotl held a special place in Frida’s heart. Señor Xolotl was a breed of Mexican hairless dog known as the xoloitzcuintli and its significance cannot be underestimated. This type of dog was known in Mexican culture as a guide to the underworld that would accompany one’s soul after death. With a life spent in and out of surgery and in constant chronic pain, I have always wondered if Frida found it a comfort to have Mr. Xolotl by her side – her guardian in both life and death.

Too much fun! Here’s something you might enjoy for the next week, if you have Amazon Prime? SXSW Free 2020 film offerings on AP. There’s a short doc on assemblage artist Bette Saar — and the My Darling Vivian feature-length doc about musician Johnny Cash’s ex is superb!
