My Covid Classics – #7

The Wandering Art Historian book club is going strong and will host discussions in September and October before taking a break in November and December.

August’s book club pick was The Passion of Artemisia by Susan Vreeland.

I really enjoyed this fast-paced book written from Artemisia’s perspective. Imagining the behind-the-scenes preparations for her epic Italian Baroque masterpieces really infused the story with life and the reality that the art-making process hasn’t changed so much in 400 years.

To honor this book club selection, I dedicated my most recent #CovidClassic to the great Artemisia.

“Self-Portrait as a Lute Player,” Artemisia Gentileschi, ca. 1616-1618

“Self-Portrait as a Guitar Player,” Adrienne H. Lee, 2020
