From Muse to Master: Celebrating Women Artists vol. 2

Hopefully it is apparent that my goal for 2021 has been to focus on creating NEW art historical content across a variety of platforms in order to reach as many people as possible. The year 2020 taught me that people still want to learn about ART despite the “new normal” of living with a global pandemic. In my experience, that feeling is continuing into 2021 and I am determined to keep providing art historical adventures via safer-at-home platforms like Zoom and YouTube.

With that said, I am pleased to share that my first new 4-week class of 2021 – From Muse to Master: Celebrating Women Artists vol. 2 – just wrapped and it was wonderful to get back to talking with people about ART!

From Muse to Master: Celebrating Women Artists vol. 2 is the follow-up to my longstanding class of the same name. Over the years I have considered retiring said class. Then I would meet someone who was surprised that women artists existed at all and felt it was my duty to offer the class again. It sort of feels like my mission in life!

From Muse to Master vol. 2 expands on the foundation laid in the previous class of combining an art historical survey of women artists with meaningful discussions of their roles as artists and their artwork via art theory. However, instead of moving through art history chronologically, this class is divided into four sessions with a new topic each week: Surrealism, Photography, Sculpture and Portraiture.

Almost to prove my point that art historical content is in high demand, this class SOLD OUT not long after being announced. I don’t want anyone to miss out on this class, so I am offering it again in April.

From Muse to Master: Celebrating Women Artists vol. 2

Beginning in the late 1700’s and progressing through to 2021, we will examine how women artists navigate portraiture, sculpture, photography and Surrealism.  Artists discussed in this class include Edmonia Lewis, Ruth Asawa, Tamara de Lempicka, Alice Neel, Dora Maar, Laurie Simmons, Leonora Carrington and more!

  • We meet via Zoom on Tuesdays in APRIL (4/6, 4/13, 4/20 & 4/27) from 11:00am – 12:30pm.
  • Once payment is confirmed, your virtual “seat” is secure.

I decided to make myself vulnerable and find out what a real, genuine Adrienne H. Lee artwork would look like. The process was challenging and emotional and revelatory. I learned that if necessity is the mother of invention, then authenticity is the mother of reinvention. I reinvented myself and learned an entirely new medium. The resulting artwork surprised me, and it will surprise you, too. Some people wish for a fairytale ending. For me, the fairy tale is only the beginning.
