Van Gogh’s Bedroom in Arles

I have never hidden the fact that I am a huge NERD. In fact, I am rather proud of my nerd status and have often celebrated it here on the blog. Well, I’m about to take my nerdy proclivities to a whole new level with this post.

Are you ready?

Today is Art Day is a company devoted to celebrating artists and art history with their products and their social media. That means you can buy art historical collectibles and games from their website and learn intriguing art historical facts from their Instagram.

I have been following them for quite a while now and purchased a couple of their masks so that I could rep my favorite artists throughout the pandemic. Recently, they announced this new product and I had to give it a shot.

First of all, the inspiration for this model building set is a very famous painting by Vincent van Gogh. If you live in the U.S. you can see one of the three versions of this painting at the Art Institute of Chicago.

I am not big into building models, but this one looked really cool and since it had an art historical bent I decided to give it a go.

Here is everything you get with this kit…

I thought it would be a quick build, but it was not! Each piece of the room and furniture is made of a thin wood, I’m thinking balsa wood. Everything is pre-painted and tools and glue are not necessary. That said, I would recommend having a piece of sandpaper handy so that the joints fit together a bit easier. Some of the connections were so tight that I had to use plyers to get them to fit and that would sometimes damage the wood.

The shutters open and close which is a nice touch! Things get really adorable when it comes time to add the accessories!

Once the room is built and the accessories are in place, you will see that the designers at This is Art Day did a really wonderful job recreating Vincent’s room in Arles.

If you are a tactile learner and are interested in learning more about art and artists, this is a very cool and unique educational tool. Building something, even if it is a recreation, makes the experience feel a bit more real and fosters a stronger connection.
