Mobile Photography Exhibition

Those of you who have been following this blog for a while know that I am not just The Wandering Art Historian, but that I am also a painter. Did you also know that I sometimes dabble in photography?

I do not in any way consider myself a photographer. I just like taking pictures! For as long as I can remember – think elementary school field trips – I have had some sort of camera in my possession. I have documented all sorts of trips, school events, holiday celebrations and family gatherings over the years and have quite a few scrapbooks and photo albums to show for it – last count was somewhere around forty!

That said, having a camera at all times via the technological marvel that is the smart phone has been revolutionary for me. Since I switched all my personal photography from my DSLR camera to my smart phone camera (which is better in photographic quality on ALL levels), I have had a lot more freedom to experiment and play.

And I LOVE to play with photography! Obviously, those who follow this blog or take my classes or attend The Wandering Art Historian book club are familiar with my #CovidClassics. I also take a ton of photos of my beagle, Chip, and produce a special photo shoot for her Gotcha’/Adoption Day every year.

This year I decided to put myself out there in a new way, creatively speaking, of course. I submitted a few of my photos to the Mobile Photography Exhibition hosted by the Appleton Museum of Art. This felt like a safe creative opportunity as all entries would not only be accepted, but also put on display.

I learned that if necessity is the mother of invention, then authenticity is the mother of reinvention. I reinvented myself and learned an entirely new medium. The resulting artwork surprised me, and it will surprise you, too. Some people wish for a fairytale ending. For me, the fairy tale is only the beginning.
