Inktober

If you are an artist, you are probably familiar with the social media phenomenon that is Inktober. Inktober is a 31 day challenge that encourages artists to complete an ink drawing every day during the month of October.

That’s it. Really!

It is kind of wonderful in that there is only the pressure to complete 31 drawings if you really feel like it. There are only four “rules” (that are obviously unenforceable!) and there are no participation fees. Sharing your artwork via social media is encouraged, but that is ultimately up to you, the participant. Some artists share their artwork so that their peers hold them accountable to completing the challenge and others share simply to encourage the joy of adding a little bit of creativity to one’s everyday routine.

So, what is everyone drawing? Each year a new series of prompts is provided and here is this year’s list…

It is entirely up to the artist’s imagination as to how to interpret each day’s prompt which, obviously, allows for a ton of creativity. That’s where things can get crazy!

I decided to participate in Inktober this year and found that combining some of the prompts made it even more fun. Here are a few of my drawings so far…
