The Healthy West Orange Arts and Heritage Center at the Town of Oakland is hosting a new art exhibition titled “Land, Water, Air” which is on view now through August 2022. Located right off the West Orange trail in Central Florida, this hidden gem won’t stay that way for long! The open house and “meet the artists” event for this exhibition is scheduled for Friday, June 24th from 3:00 – 6:00pm and will feature live jazz on its wraparound front porch as part of its 4th Fridays Music on the Porch series and a local food truck for guests feeling peckish.

I viewed the “Land, Water, Air” exhibit and found it to be a surprisingly colorful collection, the show’s vibrancy enhanced by the immense natural light provided by the building’s large, open windows. With an emphasis on motion and movement, it is an eclectic survey of humans (and other creatures!) moving through the land, through the water and through the air. Of course, it is the artists’ creative interpretations of the theme that really shine and this exhibition includes works that depict everything from straightforward realism to tongue-in-cheek humor to work with Pop Art influences and everything in between.
The inclusion of a few standout sculptures constructed of blown glass and welded metal added a really wonderful three-dimensionality to the entire exhibition and gives the show a bit of pop and whimsy. I am honored to have one of my paintings included in this exhibition, so be sure to look for it when you visit!
