“Lee”

More information is being released about an exciting new film project that focuses on the war photography of artist Lee Miller. Starring Kate Winslet and simply titled “Lee,” this film is the directorial debut of cinematographer Ellen Kuras. Conflicting reports suggest that the team is still filming in Europe while others claim the project is in post-production. Regardless, there is no release date yet, but a few production images and some casting information is being made available.

You may recall a blog post of mine from August 2021 titled “Lee Miller at The Dali.” This fascinating exhibition illustrated Lee Miller’s extensive contributions to the artistic possibilities of photography (with her subtle surrealist images), the art historical aspect of photography (with her portraits and candid images of her artist friends and colleagues), and the journalistic approach to photography (with her images of war-torn Europe).

Here is the link to my previous blog post, “Lee Miller at the Dali”…

I am very much looking forward to seeing how the filmmakers tell Lee Miller’s story. From what I understand, the focus will be on Miller’s efforts during WW2 and her determination to show the world the horrors of war through her photography.
