Apopka Murals

2023 is proving to be a big year in art for the city of Apopka, FL. This Central Florida city is embracing the community revitalization power of large-scale public artwork and is now home to a set of stunning murals that must be seen to be believed.

Down a narrow converted alleyway off of Orange Blossom Trail, you’ll find a collection of murals that showcase the immense talent and creativity of local Central Florida artists. And because the space is kind of tight, visitors can walk up to the murals to see all the details and nuance that comes from creating a large-scale public artwork. Believe me, these works are more than just photo ops or backgrounds for social media influencers. There is real emotion involved and you can feel how passionate each artist is about their work.

Due to the success of this project, I am pleased to share that more murals are on the way! In fact, YOU can be a part of the process!

Phase 2 of this epic mural project will commence with a community festival and live-painting event on Saturday, October 21 from 3:00 – 9:00pm. All are encouraged to attend as food vendors will be on site along with musical performances. That means you can watch as the artists bring their works to life before your very eyes!

I am writer and artist with a degree in art history who loves to talk to people about art. I have spent the last seven years building up The Wandering Art Historian “brand” as a way to connect with people who want to learn more about art. I also write about local artists, events, museums, and exhibitions to promote the arts in Central Florida. In 2021, I had a creative crisis. I struggled with authenticity in the art making process. I decided to make myself vulnerable and find out what a real, genuine Adrienne H. Lee artwork would look like. The process was challenging and emotional and revelatory. I learned that if necessity is the mother of invention, then authenticity is the mother of reinvention. I reinvented myself and learned an entirely new medium. The resulting artwork surprised me, and it will surprise you, too. Some people wish for a fairytale ending. For me, the fairy tale is only the beginning.
