Animal!

I have wanted to paint an “extreme close-up” shot of Animal from The Muppets for a very long time now.  I am so glad I finally made the time and bit the bullet because I am rather pleased with the results.

My summer has been extremely busy and I have not had much time to paint.  When my schedule becomes a bit overwhelming – like it is right now – I like to designate certain days with absolutely no plans whatsoever.  I use those days to paint all day long, usually from morning until night or until a piece is finished, whichever comes first.  This creative time away from the scramble of life is very helpful to me and sort of “resets” my brain.  Suddenly, my schedule doesn’t seem as overwhelming as it once did.  I also get a profound sense of accomplishment when I see a completed painting in front of me.  That gives me a lot of momentum to get back to the regular grind of my crazy schedule.

  1. Love it! The perspective and cropping really make the association to Animal’s personality. Not sure if you’re in NY, but the Museum of the Moving Image has a long-term Jim Henson exhibition that is pretty incredible.

    1. Hi Adam! Thank you for your kind words. I don’t live in NYC, but I am familiar w/ the exhibit as I am a HUGE fan of Jim Henson and The Muppets. I may be able to get up there this fall though – fingers crossed!

The resulting artwork surprised me, and it will surprise you, too. Some people wish for a fairytale ending. For me, the fairy tale is only the beginning.
