Monet in March

Yesterday I took part in another edition of the Rediscovering the Masters series at Tildenville Marketplace in Winter Garden, FL.  This month’s theme was “Monet in March” and it was a perfect spring day for an exploration of Impressionism.

We kicked things off with a brief discussion of how Impressionism changed the art world forever as Monet and his band of plucky artists moved away from Academic Art and toward Modernism.  We talked about Monet and his fascination with nature, especially waterlilies, haystacks and the way light filters through the atmosphere.

We then moved into the creative part of the event – painting a Monet-inspired masterpiece!  I am always so impressed with the artistic results of events like this as each person left the workshop with their own version of an Impressionist painting.  It is amazing what a little creativity combined with a little instruction can do for a person who claims they “can’t even draw a stick figure.”
