2020 brings with it new art adventures and, as you know, I am debuting a new lecture series with the Winter Garden Art Association titled Modern Art Madness vol. 2! This follow up series to Modern Art Madness! is devoted to a few of the artists and infamous “-isms” that are often overlooked by general surveys of Modern Art.
Session 1 is scheduled for Saturday, February 22nd and is devoted to the incredible contributions of the Russian Avant-Garde. The Russian-born artists of the early 20th century experienced a time when their country, their culture and their art were all rapidly changing, all at the same time. Art and politics were intertwined and artists started to really think about what it meant to create “Russian art.”
Artists the likes of Malevich, Goncharova and Tatlin will make an appearance as will the infamous “-isms” Suprematism and Constructivism. And yes, we will tackle Malevich’s “The Black Square!”
