“How to Read a Painting” on YouTube!

As you may recall from previous posts, I created The Wandering Art Historian YouTube channel as a way to provide art historical lectures during a time of social distancing. While it is way more fun to discuss art in person, it was quickly becoming more difficult to do that, especially during a pandemic. I decided that the best way to begin was with an introductory series that would help the viewer warm up their art history muscles and thus, “How to Read a Painting was Born.”

The first video of the series was posted on April 7th and this week I posted the last video of the series, resulting in 15 videos that encourage “reading” a painting by looking for the clues – COLORS, SYMBOLS and STORIES. It was a lot of work translating a four-week lecture-style class into YouTube videos, not to mention all the production work behind the scenes to make each video look and sound good. I have my very talented husband to thank for that!

I will begin producing new content in the coming weeks, so If you haven’t subscribed to my YouTube channel, you may want to do that ASAP.

I decided to make myself vulnerable and find out what a real, genuine Adrienne H. Lee artwork would look like. The process was challenging and emotional and revelatory. I learned that if necessity is the mother of invention, then authenticity is the mother of reinvention. I reinvented myself and learned an entirely new medium. The resulting artwork surprised me, and it will surprise you, too. Some people wish for a fairytale ending. For me, the fairy tale is only the beginning.
