Inside the Artist’s Studio with The Wandering Art Historian!

These videos are set in my own personal art studio and are meant to inspire creativity and artistic experimentation. Let me be clear… you do not have to be an artist to appreciate these videos! If you are a little curious and a little crafty and want to try your hand at making something with your own two hands, then these videos are for YOU!

Since all the videos will be posted during the month of October, I have decided to center my art projects around two subjects – pumpkins and masquerade masks. That said, these projects can be completed at any time of the year and during any season and altered to fit any holiday, theme or celebration.

One reason I decided to produce a series of creative videos as opposed to my usual art historical videos is because I have a heart for educators. We are living in extraordinary times when educators must not only teach in-person classes, but also offer virtual lessons for those who are distance learning. Plus, there are a group of young people learning from home for the very first time, either because distance learning is the only option or because their parents have chosen to homeschool. I realized that there are a bunch of educators (and newly minted parental educators) that might need additional resources for these trying times. These videos will not solve all the issues facing educators and parents who are managing their students’ and children’s educations during a global pandemic, but I hope they help in some small way.

The other reason why I produced this series is to encourage anyone and everyone to try their hand at making something. No one is more aware of what it is like to be in quarantine for six months than I am because I have been inside since March 13th. While I know that I am doing the right thing for the good of my community, I still feel a little stir crazy from time to time. Making things can definitely help with that! All the projects created in this web series are simple, require few materials and yet produce very satisfying results. You may be surprised at how good making things can make you feel.

  2. Adrienne… Will we be doing the art project at the same time as you do? Will the sessions be “live streamed”? Do we have to have certain supplies on hand in advance.

  3. Videos good idea so many people may access your Artist’s Studio when convenient for each person. Hope families and educators take advantage of your art ideas. Each video I watch will inspire me!

I am writer and artist with a degree in art history who loves to talk to people about art. I have spent the last seven years building up The Wandering Art Historian “brand” as a way to connect with people who want to learn more about art. I also write about local artists, events, museums, and exhibitions to promote the arts in Central Florida. In 2021, I had a creative crisis. I struggled with authenticity in the art making process. I decided to make myself vulnerable and find out what a real, genuine Adrienne H. Lee artwork would look like. The process was challenging and emotional and revelatory. I learned that if necessity is the mother of invention, then authenticity is the mother of reinvention. I reinvented myself and learned an entirely new medium. The resulting artwork surprised me, and it will surprise you, too. Some people wish for a fairytale ending. For me, the fairy tale is only the beginning.
