Happy New Year!

2021 is finally here and I will admit that I have been doing some serious reflection over the past few days.

In 2020, we all had to rethink the way in which we did nearly everything. We shopped from home and had groceries and other necessities delivered to our front doors. We met with our friends and families online rather than in person. We worked from home rather than commute. I have a strong suspicion that most of these new habits and work-arounds will continue into 2021 and probably into the foreseeable future.

Trevor Fraser, a journalist here in Central Florida, recently wrote an article for the Orlando Sentinel about the variety of ways people were adapting their livelihoods to the “new normal” of pandemic life. I am very honored to share with you that some of my personal story was incorporated into his reporting.

I decided to make myself vulnerable and find out what a real, genuine Adrienne H. Lee artwork would look like. The process was challenging and emotional and revelatory. I learned that if necessity is the mother of invention, then authenticity is the mother of reinvention. I reinvented myself and learned an entirely new medium. The resulting artwork surprised me, and it will surprise you, too. Some people wish for a fairytale ending. For me, the fairy tale is only the beginning.
