It’s the End of the Year as We Know It

The year is nearly over, and I want to say THANK YOU to all of YOU.

THANK YOU to everyone who participated in The Wandering Art Historian book club, attended my online lectures, or participated in my Zoom classes.

THANK YOU to everyone who signed up for my email newsletter and to all those who followed this blog.

THANK YOU to all the subscribers to my YouTube channel and to all of you who watch, like, comment on and share my videos.

THANK YOU to Melissa Cooper for allowing me to share my art historical knowledge during St. Luke’s UMC Good Friday services.

THANK YOU to Melanie Leon, Lindsay Taylor, the entire Visual Fringe team and everyone at the Orlando Fringe for being willing to go virtual this year and for including me in the festivities.

THANK YOU to the artist who hired me to write for them this year.

THANK YOU TO Jeff Wilfong and Nicole Romero for including me in their creative projects this year. Art gets better when we work together.

THANK YOU to Heather and Harris Drucker, owners/operators of The Barefoot Spa for moving forward with the annual wine box art show to benefit Zebra Coalition of Orlando. You gave us creatives a chance to do some good for people in our community.

THANK YOU to the Hampton Falls Free Library in New Hampshire for inviting me to give a Zoom lecture on their behalf.

This year I learned the phrase “no one is an island” is true, even when you are in quarantine. So many of you reached out to me this year, often coming to my aid when I was at my lowest whether you knew it or not.

It is such a comfort knowing that even if I can’t always see you, I still know that you are there and for that, I am forever grateful.

My gift to you at year’s end is my last #CovidClassic of 2020.

I am writer and artist with a degree in art history who loves to talk to people about art. I have spent the last seven years building up The Wandering Art Historian “brand” as a way to connect with people who want to learn more about art. I give lectures and presentations and teach classes and host book club discussions with a creative or artistic connection. I also write about local artists, events, museums, and exhibitions to promote the arts in Central Florida. In 2021, I had a creative crisis. I struggled with authenticity in the art making process. I decided to make myself vulnerable and find out what a real, genuine Adrienne H. Lee artwork would look like. The process was challenging and emotional and revelatory. I learned that if necessity is the mother of invention, then authenticity is the mother of reinvention. I reinvented myself and learned an entirely new medium. The resulting artwork surprised me, and it will surprise you, too. Some people wish for a fairytale ending. For me, the fairy tale is only the beginning.
