My Covid Classics – #11

Despite being a challenging and emotional year, 2020 saw the debut of a brand new 4-week class titled Modern Art Madness! vol. 2. This follow-up class to Modern Art Madness! continued the exploration of Modern Art and covered topics not discussed in the first iteration. For example, one session of this class was dedicated to the transition from Abstract Expressionism to Pop Art with an intense discussion of the work of artists James Rosenquist and Robert Rauschenberg.

This particular session had me thinking quite a lot about the phrase “One person’s trash is another person’s treasure.” No artist embodies this phrase better than Robert Rauschenberg who basically used garbage to create fine art that commented on the rise of consumerism and materialism in the United States. And he did all that in the 1950’s!

To honor Rauschenberg’s powerful contributions to the art world, please enjoy another #CovidClassic with my dog, Chipper the Regal Beagle, making a very special guest appearance.

Chip is thinking “Is this my Pee Pad?” Honestly, Adrienne, this statuesque Chip is the first thing that came to my mind & I wish I had a more artistic quote, but that’s how I ROLL, outta step & laughing! I learned that if necessity is the mother of invention, then authenticity is the mother of reinvention. I reinvented myself and learned an entirely new medium. The resulting artwork surprised me, and it will surprise you, too. Some people wish for a fairytale ending. For me, the fairy tale is only the beginning.
