Anyone who lives in Central Florida will tell you that Clermont is a town that is booming, if not bursting at the seams. For better or for worse, this town has changed dramatically since I moved here 11 years ago. However, the biggest and best improvements to our no-longer-sleepy Florida town can be seen in the Historic Downtown District.
The revitalization of Clermont’s Historic Downtown District has resulted in new businesses, including two breweries and assorted restaurants and markets. The streets have been repaired and updated with bricking, new sidewalks and a ton of additional (and very necessary) parking. Events routinely draw massive crowds, whether it’s a food truck night, wine walk, farmer’s market or holiday-themed festival.
And now we can finally add large-scale public ART as one of the many reasons to visit Downtown Clermont!
Check out this absolutely stunning mural recently completed by local artist Christy Perez…

Word on the street is that additional public artworks are coming to the downtown district, but that remains to be seen. Clermont may no longer be that blip on the map that folks drive through on their way to Ocala or Gainesville, but we have a long way to go to compete with the murals of nearby towns like Winter Garden and Orlando.
